The Red Sea, the Qulzum Sea, or the Abyssinian Sea. It and the Persian Gulf are the entrance to the waters of the Indian Ocean, which lies between Africa and Asia. And communication with the ocean in the south through the Strait of Bab al-Mandab and the Gulf of Aden. In the north it is bounded by the Sinai Peninsula, the Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez (which leads to the Suez Canal). The Red Sea is one of the 200 environmental reserves designated by the World Wildlife Fund.
Located on a part of the Great Rift Valley, the area of the Red Sea is approximately 438,000 km2. Its length is about 1900 km, and its widest point is 355 km. The maximum depth is 3,040 meters, and the average depth is 490 meters. However, there are also extensive shallow reefs with marine and coral reefs. It is home to more than 1,000 species of invertebrates, and 200 species of hard and soft corals. It is one of the seas located north of the equatorial region.

The Red Sea is a rich and diverse ecosystem. Where there are more than 1200 species of fish that have been recorded in the Red Sea, and there are about 10% of them that are not found in other places. This also includes 42 species of deep water fish.
The rich diversity is partly due to the 2,000 km (1,240 mi) coral reefs along its coastline, these adjacent reefs are between 5,000-7,000 years old and composed mostly of acropora and rock-coral porites. The reefs form berths and sometimes salt lakes along the coast and sometimes transverse as cylinders (as in the Blue Hole in the resort of Dahab). These coastal reefs are also visited by species of Red Sea fish
The Red Sea also contains many coastal reefs, including many atolls. Many of the unusual beach reefs defied traditional (eg Darwinian) coral reef classification schemes, generally attributed to the high levels of tectonic activity that characterize the area.

If you like wreck diving, for example on the wrecks of the SS Thistlegorm and the Abu Nuhas, the best option is a liveaboard from Sharm el Sheikh or choose a liveaboard from Hurghada. These routes combine well with diving on the beautiful reefs of the Ras Mohammed Marine Reserve and the Strait of Tiran.
From Hurghada or Port Ghalib you can take our Red Sea liveaboards to the Brothers Islands. You can encounter many sharks here. Most liveaboards continue to the Daedalus and Elphinstone reefs. Here you have the chance to spot manta rays and oceanic whitetip sharks. A number of liveaboards also stop at Marsa Alam where manatees can sometimes be seen. Port Ghalib (Marsa Alam) is the starting point for liveaboards south to spots such as Fury Shoals, St Johns Reef or Rocky and Zabargad. Here you will find steep walls, caves and shipwrecks with plenty of action from big fish. Egypt's best liveaboards allow you to reach these dive sites all year round, although some routes are not always available out of season.

DAEDALUS is a beautiful dive site for divers and snorkelers about 90 km southwest of Marsa Alam. Daedalus is easily accessible by liveaboard. This dive site is set around a very small island with a lighthouse; the water is therefore quite shallow here. The coral reefs start right under the water's surface and have beautiful marine life.
ELPHINSTONE is a reef of up to 400 meters in the shape of a cigar. It is located in the southern Red Sea, not far from Marsa Alam. The reef is named after British Admiral George Elphinstone. The reef is about eight miles off the coast, so it's best reached by liveaboard.
ABU NUHAS or Shaab Abu Nuhas Reef is located in the Shadwan Channel, on the northeast coast of Shadwan Island. You can find five shipwrecks here; ideal for wreck diving.
